Steps to Salvation

God desires to save us from our sin (the things we do wrong that fall short of His standard for us). He achieved this through the willing sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. He willingly took on Himself the punishment of our sins and rose again, so that we could be forgiven and receive eternal life. Only those who have been forgiven by God through Christ's death on the cross will be saved from eternal separation from God.

Now you may be asking yourself: how can I be sure that I have been forgiven, how can I be sure that I've crossed the line from death to life - what must I do in response to God's act of love and forgiveness? Set out below are the steps you need to take to receive salvation.

1. Confess
Everyone has done wrong, by falling short of God's standards. The Bible calls this sin, and sin separates us from God. The only way to return to God is to deal with our sin. The Bible teaches us that if we admit that we have done wrong and turn away from evil, God will forgive us. Jesus' death on the cross provides the answer to our sin problem.

2. Repent
Repentance is all about changing your mind and direction in life. To repent is to turn away from wrong doing, to change your mind and alter your lifestyle. God loves you and wants you to have a better life, to live your life in the way He intended it to be lived. He will change your life around for you if you are willing to change and leave behind all that is wrong. God will ask you to give up certain things that displease Him, as they get in the way of His plan for your life. Repentance is a process, but as you give up those things that are wrong God will give you so much more in their place.

3. Believe
Having faith in God is another way of saying 'you trust God.' God wants you to believe in Him, to believe that he only wants the best for you. His desire for you is to bless you and give you a new life. That's what faith is: believing without seeing. Although you cannot see God, you can get to know Him by His Spirit and through His Word, the Bible.

If you are ready to receive Christ into your life as Lord and Saviour, you might wish to use the following prayer:

'Lord Jesus, I admit that I have been living in rebellion, choosing my own desire and way instead of your way. For this I am truly sorry. I now desire to turn away from my wrong doing and repent of all my sin. I believe that you died on the cross for me so that I might be forgiven. Please forgive me now. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit and help me to live in a way that pleases you. I now trust you as Lord and Saviour and ask you to be my Master and closest friend all the days of my life. Amen'

IF YOU HAVE PRAYED THIS PRAYER IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TELL SOMEONE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THEY CAN PRAY FOR YOU AND ENCOURAGE YOU.
